“The Doctor Is In”

Why Sheboygan County citizens attempt and die by suicide—and what we can all do about it

On Nov. 12, about 150 people packed into Jake’s Cafe in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to hear noted suicide research experts Dr. Dave Jobes, Ph.D., ABPP, board certified clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at The Catholic University in Washington D.C., and Dr. Tim Lineberry, M.D., board certified psychiatrist and chief medical officer for Aurora Health Care, talk about suicide — its causes and aftermath, how to prevent it and what to look for. They took dozens of questions from the audience about everything from what to say to a loved one who might be suicidal to how to survive the suicide of a family member. Sharing stories from their work and research, they encouraged people to talk openly to friends and loved ones they suspect of being depressed or suicidal.
